The Iowa State Men's Cross Country program began intercollegiate competition one year after the program's inception (1908). Iowa State has earned 13 conference titles, two national titles, and was twice the national runner-up. Two individuals have won national titles for Iowa State as well (John Nuttal, 1989; Jonah Koech, 1990). On March 22, 1948, Iowa State College (University) sponsored a 90th anniversary celebration in honor of the founding of the college, which occurred on the same date in 1858 when the charter act establishing a state agricultural college became law.
